Carol Hoorn Fraser (1930-1991)
First they tell you it isnt true; then they tell you its true but unimportant; then they say its important and theyve known it all along.
(American inventor, quoted from memory.)
The night wind blows upon the dreamer, bent
Over words that are lifes voluble utterance.
(Wallace Stevens)
This magnificent and still too little known artist did over three hundred oils, as many watercolours, and numerous drawings. These thirty-seven images, arranged more or less chronologically, give an idea of her range, her intellectual freedom, and her unflagging inventiveness. Their positions elsewhere in the site are indicated. The titles in square brackets were provided by J.F. for works left untitled. The site contains about a hundred and thirty images of her work.
